You may be wondering how we got the name Cloudland Paintworks. After all, it’s not the easiest name to remember. Truth is we wanted to create a name for our company that would reflect what we do (painting) and link it in some way to where we live (Cloudland Road in North Haven). But we also liked the story behind how our road got it’s name.
In the time when our house was first built (late 1880’s), it was located in a much more rural setting. Across the street there were more than 80 acres of dairy farms, and the road itself was a small dirt road named Pig Lane! At the top of our very steep hill among the clouds there was a farm named Cloudland Farm. At some point in the history of North Haven, town officials renamed our street twice, first changing it from Pig Lane to Maple Lane, and later, after realizing there was already a Maple Avenue, they decided to rename it after the farm at the top of the hill. Hence Cloudland Road was born. Although the farm no longer exists, we’re awfully glad the town officials knew about the farm and changed the name of our road in its honor, since Pig Lane Paintworks just doesn’t have the same feeling!
